Food design is an international subject that has been created in the last years. Recently in Italy the "Salone Internazionale del Mobile" in Milan improved it, thanks to the so called "Dining Design" exhibition.
Food design bases its rules on the application of visual arts ones combined with people's senses; food as a design product comes to life to satisfy human needs and to please people senses. So it is fundamental for food designers to pay great attention to both flavour and shape of a product or of a course.
Famous fashion designers, important universities, researchers, designers and companies are investing great resources in the future of this subject. We can recognise basically three development directions: design for food, design with food and course design.
